Simplicity of Science Courtesy of the Mythbusters

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of attending a lecture here in Boise from the Mythbusters, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of the hit Discovery Channel show. While I know they don't have much to do with usability or user-centered design, what I took away from the presentation was an interesting perspective on problem solving.

Special effects wizards by trade, Adam and Jamie's enjoyment of their profession and the show they host on Discovery is summed up by taking complex problems and breaking them down to their most simple and elegant form.

Developing technology products is usually in response to a problem. We create the products and leverage technology to meet our needs. While the problems we face in business may seem monumental, taking a cue from the Mythbusters can help us yield a solution that is both simple and elegant.
