The User Experience: Not One Size Fits All

I have to feel for Seth Godin and his recent experience with a certain airline's in-flight entertainment system. You can read about Seth's ordeal on his blog, but what's interesting about the situation he encountered is that it reminds us of a fundamental principle of usability and the user experience:

Never assume that all of your users will have the same or similar preferences.

It's about their needs and the obstacles they are trying to overcome. What people definitely don't need is to have their eardrums blown out because some jabroni before him liked his music loud. Turn it up to 11!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Hope the damage isn't permanent, Seth.
